Grindstone Gospel

My alarm clock preaches a sermon of the blues

'Bout the penance that you're payin' and the paying of the dues

The coffee is a ritual, a prayer before the war

To sharpen up my spirit for what I'm fighting for

This ain't about the money, it's about the alchemy

Turnin' sweat and sacrifice to a legacy

My own two hands are instruments of a relentless faith

That I can build a paradise from this side of the grave

It's the rhythm of the work, the hymn of the machine

The only real salvation that my soul has ever seen

A sacred kind of violence, a dedicated shove

This ain't a job, my darlin', this is tough love.

This is my Grindstone Gospel, this is my holy sound

The screech of steel on steel as I take another round

Against the doubt, against the odds, against the dying light

I'm sharpening my future to a razor in the night

This ain't no choir singin', just the pounding in my soul

The Grindstone Gospel's the one thing that makes me feel whole.

They see exhaustion, but I call it dedication

A one-woman revival, my own congregation

I break myself down daily just to build it back up new

A temple made of muscle and a clearer point of view

My ambition is an echo that refuses to be tamed

A litany of "I will" that I have self-ordained

'Cause destiny ain't somethin' that you wait for or you find

It's somethin' that you carve out with the power of your mind

It's the rhythm of the work, the hymn of the machine

The only real salvation that my soul has ever seen

A sacred kind of violence, a dedicated shove

This ain't a job, my darlin', this is tough love.

This is my Grindstone Gospel, this is my holy sound

The screech of steel on steel as I take another round

Against the doubt, against the odds, against the dying light

I'm sharpening my future to a razor in the night

This ain't no choir singin', just the pounding in my soul

The Grindstone Gospel's the one thing that makes me feel whole.

Some people pray for miracles to fall down from the sky

I just believe in the fire that I see in my own eye

I make my own damn miracles, one hour at a time

A testament of willpower in a world of pantomime.
