Fire and Fury

Sledgehammer Smile

I know you think you've got me figured out and in a box

You see the soft edges, you don't see the jagged rocks

You hear the Southern accent, think I'm simple and I'm sweet

But you don't feel the tremor building right beneath your feet.

You better watch out for that sledgehammer smile

It might look harmless for a little while

But underneath the surface, I'm countin' all the bricks

This whole damn wall is coming down, you better move it quick.

I learned to be the honey so they'd never see the sting

I learned to play the long game while the caged bird learns to sing

I've been nodding, I've been waiting, I've been gathering my strength

Patiently preparing to go to any length.

You better watch out for that sledgehammer smile

It might look harmless for a little while

But underneath the surface, I'm countin' all the bricks

This whole damn wall is coming down, you better move it quick.

The pleasantries are over, the niceties are done

There's nowhere left for you to hide, there's nowhere left to run

This ain't an earthquake, darling, it ain't a random act

It's the focused, planned destruction of a wall that's finally cracked.

You better watch out for that sledgehammer smile

It might look harmless for a little while

But underneath the surface, I'm countin' all the bricks

This whole damn wall is coming down, you better move it quick.
